Ministry Launches Training Series For Teachers

(PLTM) - GIS - The Ministry of Education has launched its Professional Development Series for Educators, developed in collaboration with the Institute of Education at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).

The series began in September and will continue through January 2025. It is also designed to equip educators with the latest tools, strategies, and knowledge to meet the ever-evolving needs of their students.

Acting Chief Education Officer, Mrs. Orlandette Crabbe emphasised the ministry's commitment to supporting educators. “Professional development for educators remains a top priority, as we continue our commitment to reimagining education in the Virgin Islands,” Mrs. Crabbe said. She added, “By investing in our teachers, we ensure they are equipped with the most up-to-date tools and strategies to meet the evolving needs of their students."

Mrs. Crabbe also shared her appreciation for the partnership, stating, "Collaboration between the Ministry and the Institute of Education has proven invaluable in building the capacity of our educators. We look forward to future initiatives that will further strengthen this partnership and continue supporting the professional growth of our teachers."

The Professional Development Series will offer sessions that cover a wide range of critical topics including innovative teaching techniques, classroom management strategies, technology integration, and student engagement practices.

These topics were carefully selected based on feedback from educators, ensuring they are relevant and responsive to the identified needs across all levels of the education system.

Sessions will be offered in a multi-part format, educators will have the opportunity for deeper exploration of concepts, leading to practical application in the classroom. Participants will gain access to new insights, actionable strategies, and valuable resources, all aimed at improving student outcomes. Additionally, the series will foster peer collaboration and the exchange of experiences, encouraging a culture of professional growth within the teaching community.

The professional development opportunities will be offered to educators free of charge, underscoring the ministry’s dedication to making continuous learning accessible and impactful.

Newly appointed Director of the Institute of Education, Mr. Stephen Joseph, said he is happy to take lead in the advancement of the vision and goals of the HLSCC, which continues to be at the forefront of teachers’ growth and professional development in the Virgin Islands.

Mr. Joseph said, "We are honoured to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to empower educators in the Virgin Islands. The Institute of Education is dedicated to empowering teachers through innovative and inclusive education practices.”

The director added, “We strive to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong love and learning in our educators. Part of our mission is to prepare teachers who are not only skilled professionals, but also advocates for social justice and community engagement. This Professional Development Series exemplifies our commitment to fostering teaching excellence and improving educational standards across the Territory."
