A familiar stretch of roadway near Banco Popular in Road Town is set to look safer and more polished as repairs begin on a damaged banister that has been in need of attention since the 2017 hurricane season.
The work is being carried out under the Road Town Partnership Programme, a public-private initiative aimed at improving the capital’s appearance, functionality, and overall safety. Taking the lead on this latest project is Ms. Nona Vanterpool, Owner and Managing Partner of Vanterpool Enterprises, who has launched the effort to repair the railing along the roadside.
Premier Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley praised the initiative, describing it as the kind of community-minded action the programme was created to encourage.
“This project exemplifies the spirit of partnership we envisioned for Road Town,” the Premier said, commending Vanterpool for stepping forward. He also urged motorists and pedestrians to be cautious while the work is underway, and encouraged other businesses in the capital to follow suit by investing in the upkeep of their buildings and surroundings.
For Vanterpool, the project carries special meaning. She noted that her family’s business is marking a major milestone this year—55 years as part of the Road Town commercial community.
“As a business operator in the capital, I believe it is important to take personal responsibility for the external appearance of my building and to contribute to making Road Town a place we can all be proud of,” she said, adding that the goal is to help create a capital where residents and businesses feel comfortable walking, shopping, and conducting business.
Chair of the Road Town Partnership Committee, Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism Honourable Luce Hodge-Smith, also welcomed the effort, calling it a strong example of corporate social responsibility and a reminder that meaningful improvements require shared responsibility.
“Government cannot do everything, and partnerships like these are essential as we continue to implement meaningful improvements across Road Town,” she said, while encouraging other businesses and community members to get involved in strengthening the look and feel of the capital for both residents and visitors.
Government officials said the Road Town Partnership Committee—made up of representatives from both the public and private sectors—has been meeting to develop a wider master plan for Road Town’s improvement, with additional initiatives expected to be announced soon.
